Changes in the party starts traditionally at 6am, with the assembly of the carpet. The activity involves people of the Catholic community of the city and parishes of the region and even tourists who like to participate in this time of celebration.

The carpet, as is usual, will be mounted on the main streets of the historic center: Largo da Matrix, Suzana Dias Street, Largo São Bento, Rua Santa Cruz, Bartolomeu Bueno Street, Square November 14, Union Square and Rua Padre Miguel Mauro . It is made to resemble the mystery of the Eucharist – the sacrament of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ – which, according to the Bible, was instituted by the Son of God on the day of the Lord’s Supper.

In addition to religious programming, residents and tourists can enjoy the day to visit the Crafts Fair, which will be mounted at Rua André Fernandes and Monsanto Conde and the Food Court, Rua Pedro Procopio.

History date

The celebration of the feast of Corpus Christi, name that comes from Latin and means the Body of Christ originated in 1243 in Liege, Belgium, where the nun Juliana of Mont Cornión had visions of Christ, expressing the hope that the occasion was remembered especially. In 1264, the event was extended to the entire Catholic Church, by order of Pope Urban IV.

There is no historical record on the date of the event in Santana de Parnaíba. It is known that until 1968 – the year the sawdust joined the color panel – the streets and Santana de Parnaíba windows were adorned with red flowers of St. John, common in the months of June and July.
